As Editor-in-Chief of International Surgery, I address the impact of ongoing changes pertaining to International Surgery publishing strategy. International Surgery has been published since 1938 and has maintained a consistent and stable publishing strategy over many years, with the primary mission of disseminating scientific and medical research information to the world.

Our ongoing International Surgery strategy is to provide new scientific and medical research information to the world as best we can. In so doing, we will focus on all aspects of surgical specialties, including humanitarian surgery. Based on the realization that surgical missions continue to increasingly address unfulfilled needs in low- and middle-income countries, International Surgery will give priority to providing surgical mission information to the world, as awareness of these unfulfilled needs is most important.

International Surgery is the Official Journal of the International College of Surgeons (ICS) and is published by the ICS. The International College of Surgeons is in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a Non-State Actor (NSA). With full respect for WHO rules and procedures, International Surgery will assist the WHO in developing an increased awareness of unfulfilled needs in low- and middle-income countries.

As Editor-in-Chief of International Surgery, I commit to keeping publishing fees at reasonable levels for authors with limited means in low- and middle-income countries and to students. We understand and respect the urgent need to quickly publish peer reviewed scientific and medical research information. We commit to minimizing the time between manuscript receipt and publishing the research information.

Our goal is to professionally serve our authors as best we can.

I welcome any questions or comments that you may have.

Sincerely,

Professor Christopher Chen

Editor-in-Chief
