The goals and objectives of International Surgery are very clear, including ongoing change to remain relevant and to serve our global authors in the very best way possible. International Surgery is a most important and valued asset and growth opportunity within the International College of Surgeons. International Surgery must continuously be improved and developed to continue being one of the finest surgical journals in the field of global surgery.

International Surgery has been published for over 80 years and has undergone significant change over those 80 years. Anytime change occurs, or in different words, “transitions,” consistency is sometimes lacking, and disjointed actions sometimes occur. The time interval from initiating any specific change to finalizing that change can be accompanied by uncertainty, confusion, error, and general overall concern regarding the status of the entity undergoing change and whether there is a future for the entity.

International Surgery is in the final stages of transition to only open access publishing and to relocating the editorial staff to Chicago, USA. International Surgery remains on a pathway to preserve and increase the value of the Journal, and in so doing, to continuing to be a major presence in global scientific and medical publishing.

There is quotation from a rather well-known American humorist, which says, “Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.” There is no status quo. Either an entity progresses or regresses. International Surgery will continue to progressively change to stay in the vanguard of scientific and medical global publishing.

I welcome any questions or comments that you may have.

Sincerely,

Christopher Chen

Editor-in-Chief
