READER EASY ACCESS
Albert Einstein is referenced with the quote, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simplex.” Easy access is particularly relevant, as International Surgery is only published as an electronic online journal. We wish to keep access to International Surgery via the hosted website as simple as possible.
If you are a dues-paying Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, you are entitled to have complimentary access to each monthly issue of International Surgery. This free-of-charge access to every monthly issue of International Surgery is a key added value for every Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, but is not automatic. Each Fellow must take the initiative to activate access to the journal.
Some fundamental requirements exist to receive this added value. Each Fellow must have an email address, and this email address must be current. The headquarters staff must be in possession of the Fellow's current email address. Otherwise, no access is possible. If you, as an ICS Fellow, are registering for the first time to receive International Surgery, each Fellow should go to the website, www.internationalsurgery.org. In the upper right-hand corner are the words “Register for an Account.” If you already have an account, then simply log onto the existing account and follow instructions thereafter.
The additional opportunity exists for Fellows to be alerted in advance of each new monthly issue of International Surgery. Following log-in to the journal site, the personal profile will be viewed. Click on the name of the person logging into the site and an “alerts” tab will then be seen. Each Fellow must activate this alert, as this alert activation is not automatic. The “alerts” tab activates the notification of forthcoming issues in either plain text or HTML. Following this action, readers receive automatic email notifications when new issues of International Surgery are published. If difficulty is encountered, a “help” button exists for those needing assistance.
Our goal is to make access to International Surgery as straightforward as possible. In so doing, we wish to not only meet our readers' expectations, but to exceed those expectations for easy access. Please let us know about your experiences, such that we may continue to have International Surgery be a key membership value to all Fellows of the International College of Surgeons.
